There is also a small playground for families traveling with kids. One of the easiest ways to get around in port while on a cruise to St. Thomas, if you don’t want to rent your own car, is by taxi, although local taxis are not what you might expect.

Inaugurated in 2007, Crown Bay Marina is the newest pier located in the western part of Charlotte Amalie’s Bay (on the opposite side of Havensight cruise terminal), approximately 2.6 km/1.6 miles from downtown. Crown Bay Pier consists of 2 berths and offers a variety of amenities. St. Thomas is known for its extensive duty-free shopping, and downtown Charlotte Amalie is where you’ll find bargains galore, from perfume to jewelry and electronics. Shops stocking everything imaginable line Main Street, while there’s a small market nearby with vendor stands selling jewelry, clothing, crafts, and other Caribbean-inspired artifacts. The Havensight Mall is right by the Havensight cruise terminal, while the Crown Bay Center serves the Crown Bay pier. For the most upscale shopping, head for Yacht Haven Grande, where you’ll find brands like Gucci, Bulgari, and Coach.
Historical & Cultural Attractions in St. Thomas
For those planning to rent a vehicle while they visit St. Thomas, plenty of parking spots are available near the two ports. It is particularly easy to find parking at Havensight Pier, as the Havensight Mall has a large parking area that is free to use. Car rental facilities are also located a short walk from each cruise port, so vehicle pickup and drop-off couldn’t be easier.
But just because it appeals to the comfortable side of travel doesn't mean that St. Thomas is basic. Just the opposite—the 80-square-kilometer (31-square-mile) island is full of superlatives. It's home to some of the Caribbean's highest viewpoints, spectacularly positioned among verdant tropical foliage. And the island has got the hands-down coolest attraction in the region—an ice museum.
There’s history to discover in the enchanting capital of Charlotte Amalie, which dates back to the 17th century when the island was colonized by Denmark and pirates roamed the Caribbean. If Havensight Pier is too busy, your ship may end up docking in Crown Point Marina, despite being a smaller ship. Ships docking at Crown Bay are usually those with a deeper draft like Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class ships, Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 and several Holland America and Princess ships. Cruise lines that dock at Havensight include Carnival, Celebrity, Norwegian and most Royal Caribbean ships except for their Oasis class ships. Make sure to pack your sunscreen, sun hat, maybe a daypack and get ready for a visit that includes relaxation, adventure, shopping and a bit of pirate lore.
